The Next Step’s Lamar Johnson joins X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Evan Peters returns as Quicksilver

Lamar Johnson, star of the BAFTA Award-winning Canadian show The Next Step has joined the cast of the upcoming film X-Men: Dark Phoenix, according to THR. In addition, Evan Peters who played the popular Quicksilver in the earlier films has been confirmed to return. No word about whether or not he’ll get a big slow-motion scene, and Lamar Johnson’s character is being kept under wraps for the time being.

Longtime X-Men series writer and producer Simon Kinberg will write and direct X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which will bring back the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse, including Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler). Actress Jessica Chastain will play the villain of the film, Lilandra. An empress of the Shi’ar Empire, Lilandra leads an alien race that is in search of and eager to eradicate the Phoenix Force. Sophie Turner will reprise her role as Jean Grey in the film, the host of the Phoenix Force and subject of the Shi’ar’s search.

Kinberg will also produce the film alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker. X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to open in theaters on November 2, 2018.

Kinberg previously confirmed that the next X-Men movie would jump ahead ten years from Apocalypse, offering a 1990s setting for the sequel. The X-Men comics saw a commercial boom during the ’90s, following character redesigns by Jim Lee, which went on to be the basis for the fan-favorite animated series.

Remy Ma Ends Nicki Minaj’s Reign at BET Awards 2017

Nicki Minaj‘s seven years on top as the BET Awards’s best female hip hop artist came to an abrupt end last night as Remy Ma swooped in to take the title. Proving that sometimes you can call it a comeback, Ma had not won the award since 2005.

The artist appeared on stage in a silver fringe and sheer gown, thanking her husband, Papoose (also a rapper) along with Fat Joe. Ma, who spent time in prison for assault, cited two correctional facilities in her speech. Her track “Shether” was released in the spring and was well received by fans.

Said Ma of her best female hip hop artist win, “You can make mistakes and come back.”

BET Awards 2017: Beyonce, Chance the Rapper, Wizkid, others emerge winners

The 2017 BET Awards closed its curtains on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The star-studded event which celebrated achievements in music, entertainment, sports, television and movies was hosted by Leslie Jones of Saturday Night Live.

The big night saw performances by some of America’s fan-favourite like Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, Big Sean and others.

Beyonce emerged the biggest winner of the night, taking home the awards for “Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award”, “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist”, “Video of the Year” and “Album of the Year” respectively.

Rave of the moment, Chance the Rapper, took home the highly coveted “Best New Artist” and “Humanitarian Award”.

Nigerian music export, Wizkid, made the Nigerian music industry proud as he took home the “Best International Act: Africa” at the 2017 BET Awards announced at the pre-BET awards held on Saturday.

Wizkid Wins Best International Act Africa At 2017 BET Awards

Nigerian singer and songwriter Wizkid on Sunday bagged BET Award for ‘Best International Act: Africa’ in Los Angeles, California.

Wizkid topped Tekno, Mr Eazi, Davido, Stonebwoy, Aka, Nasty C, Babes Wodumo who were also nominated in the category.

This won’t be the first time Star boy is bagging the award in this category, as he has gone home with the award in 2012.

However, Wizkid was unavailable to collect his award, he has received a total of 44 awards from 157 nominations as of June 2017.

Wizkid will be embarking on an international tour with American rapper and songwriter, Future later in July.

'The Originals' Boss Talks Potential Spinoff, 'Vampire Diaries' Crossover and Season 5

The Originals wrapped up its fourth season with a finale that could've served as a series ender: despite a heartbreaking twist that saw four of the Mikaelson siblings torn apart forever, they each got a solo happy (or at least bittersweet) ending — and the potential crossover set up in the Vampire Diaries series finale came to fruition.



With the Hollow finally possessing Hope, the only way to save the young Mikaelson witch was to split the Hollow's evil, Horcrux-style, into four of the ultra-powerful siblings. The consequence: Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Rebekah (Claire Holt), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) will never be able to be in the same room together again without the evil gaining control, meaning they all went their separate ways. Rebekah and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) finally embarked on a real relationship in New York City, Kol was about to propose to Davina (Danielle Campbell) in San Francisco, Elijah was playing piano in France, Klaus was checking in on his brother, and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) was last seen dropping Hope off at Alaric's school.

When the show returns for season five on The CW, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the focus will shift to follow a teenage Hope at the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted—but the rest of the characters will still be in the mix despite the fact that most of them can't be in the same room together without setting off devastating supernatural consequences. And although Hope will be relocating to Mystic Falls, New Orleans isn't out of the picture either — something will likely lure the Mikaelsons back to the city that keeps calling their name.

'Wonder Woman' Set to Become Top-Grossing Live-Action Film Directed by a Woman

Director Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman continues to make history in its box-office run.

Sometime Thursday or Friday, the Warner Bros. and DC superhero tentpole will eclipse the $609.8 million earned worldwide by Phyllida Lloyd's Mamma Mia! (2008) to become the top-grossing live-action film of all time from a female director, not accounting for inflation.

Wonder Woman also has a strong shot of passing up Kung Fu Panda 2's $665.7 million to become the top-grossing film of all time from a female filmmaker with solo directing duties. Jennifer Yuh Nelson helmed the 2011 animated sequel.

Starring Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman passed the $600 million mark at the worldwide box office on Wednesday, finishing the day with a cume of $601.6 million, including $289.2 million domestically and $312.4 million internationally.

In terms of a movie from female and male co-directors, Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck's Frozen (2013) is at the top of the box-office list with $1.28 billion in global ticket sales.

What The Bumblebee Spinoff's Transformers Cars Will Look Like

The fifth chapter of the Transformers franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight, is now playing in theaters, and Paramount has a lot more in store for the robots in disguise in the coming years. But before Transformers 6 rolls out, the series is taking a detour with the Bumblebee spinoff, spotlighting the second most popular Autobot after Optimus Prime. Rather than be set after The Last Knight's events, the Bumblebee movie will take place in the 1980s, and that visit back in time will allow moviegoers to see cars that harken back to the early years of the property. 

While seeing 80s-styled cars was to be expected once it was announced what decade that Transformers Bumblebee spinoff would be set in, it's nonetheless good to hear that we'll see some of the classic vehicle designs that populated the Transformers toy line and animated tales back in the day. Lorenzo di Bonaventura's response to ComicBook.com also lines up with his previous comments about how the Bumblebee movie will go back to the "original heritage" of the Transformers property, a.k.a. Generation 1.

As far as Bumblebee is concerned, his first vehicle form in 2007's Transformers was a mid-1970s Chevrolet Camaro, so unless director Travis Knight and the Bumblebee movie crew are dead set on him turning into a Camaro model from the '80s, it would be easy enough for him to keep this classic form while adventuring on his own. We can't start guessing on what the movie's few other Transformers will model their vehicle forms on until their identities are revealed, though since this spinoff is set in 1985, the same year Back to the Future was released, part of me wants one of them to turn into a DeLorean.

No plot details for the Bumblebee movie have been released yet. All that's certain right now is that it will strictly be following the eponymous yellow mechanical alien four decades after he aided the Allies in World War II (as seen in the last knight) and two decades before he becomes Sam Witwicky's protector. Along with a smaller cast of Transformers, be they Autobot or Decepticon, the movie will also star a teenaged girl who works as a mechanic after school and is described as a "tomboy." As of a few weeks ago, The Edge of Seventeen's Hailee Steinfield is in talks to play that character.

The Bumblebee movie hits theaters on June 8, 2018. While we wait for more news on that spinoff and other Transformers projects, browse through out 2017 movie guide so you can plan your theater visits for the rest of the year accordingly.

Lego Ninjago Movie Poster Finds The Ninja Within Ya

Warner Bros. has released a new poster for their highly-anticipated LEGO Movie spin-off, The LEGO Ninjago Movie, which could hint that a new trailer is on the way as well. It's been four months since the first LEGO Ninjago Movie Trailer debuted in February, so perhaps this poster could be getting fans ready for the next batch of footage. This one-sheet features several of these stealth ninja character, seem hiding high in the trees above, brandishing several different LEGO Ninago weapons like swords, nunchucks and a bow and arrow set. These ninjas are certainly not ones to be trifled with.
In this big-screen Ninjago adventure, the battle for Ninjago City calls to action young Master Builder Lloyd, aka the Green Ninja, along with his friends, who are all secret ninja warriors. Led by Master Wu, as wise-cracking as he is wise, they must defeat evil warlord Garmadon, The Worst Guy Ever, who also happens to be Lloyd's dad. Pitting mech against mech and father against son, the epic showdown will test this fierce but undisciplined team of modern-day ninjas who must learn to check their egos and pull together to unleash their inner power of Spinjitzu.

Justice League Poster brings in Superman, New Trailer Drops at Comic-Con

After a handful of posters and a whole lot of marketing material that has largely ignored the Man of Steel, Superman has officially arrived on a brand new poster for Justice League. Not only that, but a new trailer for the Justice League Movie is also going to be arriving next month during San Diego Comic-Con.
The folks over at DC Extended Universe have unveiled what looks to be an official poster for Justice League which, unlike previous posters, actually features Superman. Unfortunately, he isn't rocking the black costume, which has been teased by Henry Cavill in the past, but this doesn't necessarily rule it out, either. The caption for the photo also claims that the second official trailer for the Justice League movie is going to debut at San Diego Comic-Con during Warner Bros. Hall H presentation on Saturday, July 22. 
Justice League is currently undergoing reshoots in the UK under the direction of Joss Whedon (The Avengers), who is finishing up the movie for director Zack Snyder who sadly had to step away due to a personal tragedy. There have been a lot of rumors surrounding just how significant these reshoots are, but Whedon and DC Extended Universe head Geoff Johns recently made some jokes about the situation on Twitter, seeming to indicate that everything's going smoothly and that these reshoots are more or less standard practice. This is still largely going to be Zack Snyder's movie and his vision for the Justice League. It was also recently announced that Danny Elfman, who scored both of Tim Burton's Batman movies, is going to be doing the soundtrack for Justice League. He is taking over for Junkie XL (Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Mad Max: Fury Road) who had been working on the movie previously, but has sinced moved on to do the new Tomb Raider movie instead.

Cars 3 Races to the Top, Wonder Woman Reaches $571.8M Worldwide

Disney•Pixar‘s Cars 3 opened in first place at the domestic box office with an estimated $53.5 million from 4,256 theaters, the 16th Pixar film to open at No. 1. Comparing to the first two films, the first Cars opened to $60.1 million in 2006 and Cars 2 earned $66.1 million its first weekend in 2011. Internationally, the third installment debuted with $21.3 million from a handful of territories, including key markets Russia and Mexico. The film will continue its international rollout in Australia and New Zealand next weekend before expanding across the globe through the summer and fall. Directed by Brian Fee, Cars 3 features the voices of Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Armie Hammer, Larry the Cable Guy, Kerry Washington, Nathan Fillion, Cheech Marin, and Lea DeLaria. The film received an A CinemaScore from audiences.

After reigning for two weeks, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films‘ Wonder Woman dropped just 30% in ticket sales its third weekend an added $40.8 million in second place. The film has now grossed $274.6 million in North America. Internationally, Wonder Woman grossed $39.5 million from 16,390 screens in 62 markets to push its overseas total to $297.2 million ($82.7 million from China) and worldwide total to $571.8 million. Made for $149 million and directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Connie Nielsen and Lucy Davis.

Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me (Lionsgate/Summit) debuted in third place with an estimated $27 million from 2,471 theaters. Directed by Benny Boom, the film stars Demetrius Shipp Jr., Danai Gurira, Annie Ilonzeh, Jamal Woolard, Dominic L. Santana, Kat Graham and Jamie Hector. All Eyez on Me received an A- CinemaScore.

Universal Pictures’ The Mummy dropped to the fourth spot with $13.9 million its second weekend and has earned $56.5 million so far. Internationally, the film is up to $239.1 million for a global sum of $295.6 million. Directed by Alex Kurtzman, The Mummy was made for $125 million and stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe.

Shark thriller 47 Meters Down (Entertainment Studios), starring Mandy Moore and Claire Holt, rounded out the top five with $11.5 million from 2,270 locations. Directed by Johannes Roberts and also starring Matthew Modine, the film received a CinemaScore.

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales reached $500 million in international box office this weekend, making it the 21st Walt Disney Studios film to surpass this milestone. Domestically, the fifth installment grossed $8.5 million this weekend in sixth place. It has grossed $150.1 million in North America and $650.1 million worldwide. The previous installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, earned $241 million domestically and $804.6 million internationally, for a global total of $1.045 billion. Directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales stars Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, Kevin R. McNally, Kaya Scodelario, Golshifteh Farahani, Stephen Graham, David Wenham and Geoffrey Rush. It cost $230 million to make.

Rough Night (Columbia Pictures/LStar Capital) took in $8.05 million this weekend from 3,162 locations in the seventh spot. Directed by Lucia Aniello, the comedy stars Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, Zoë Kravitz, and Paul W. Downs. Receiving a C+ CinemaScore, Rough Night cost about $20 million to make.

Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, others join line-up of performers

BET Africa has announced that music heavyweights Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, Big Sean, Post Malone, Roman Gian Arthur and Jessie Reyez will perform at the 2017 “BET Awards” as well as Lifetime Achievement Award recipients New Edition.

The iconic annual show had previously announced acts such as Bruno Mars, Future, Migos, Trey Songz and Tamar Braxton to perform.

The BET Awards has set the standard for one of the most intently unconventional, news-provoking broadcasts. Set to be hosted by stand-up comedian Leslie Jones, the awards is sure to include unforgettable moments, appearances and performances.

Wizkid, Tekno, Davido and Mr Eazi among other African stars have been nominated in Best International Act Africa category.

Singer and humanitarian Yvonne Chaka Chaka and social activist Ilwad Elman being awarded with International Global Good Star and Power Awards.

The 2017 BET Awards will air on BET (DStv Channel 129) on Tuesday 27 June at 19:00WAT. In addition, leading entertainers across television, film, sports, comedy and music join as presenters at the BET Awards 2017 including Yara Shahidi, Cardi B, Issa Rae, Jamie Foxx, La La Anthony, the cast of Universal Pictures “Girls Trip” (Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah), Trevor Noah, Robin Thede, Cari Championand Demetrius Shipp Jr. These names represent some of the most accomplished talent and rising stars in the industry today.

Beyoncé dominates this year’s nominations with a total of seven including ‘Best Female R&B/Pop Artist,’ ‘Best Collaboration’ with Kendrick Lamar for “Freedom,” ‘Video of the Year,’ and ‘Album of the Year’ for "Lemonade".

We've lost a lot of acting greats over the past couple of years, but the world this weekend was rocked when classic Batman actor Adam West lost his battle to leukaemia, succumbing to the disease at 88. Many of his fellow cast members from Batman already spoke out about losing their partner in crime fighting and this weekend new Batman - Ben Affleck also spoke out about the loss and even a little bit about what Adam West had taught him about taking on the role.

The Mummy: Film critics haven’t been kind about the new Tom Cruise movie

Starring Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella, the movie has been panned by film reviewers who have described it as a "monster fail" and "an unholy mess".
The bad reviews will be especially alarming for Universal because The Mummy is the first film in their Dark Universe franchise. Future movies in the franchise include Bride of Frankenstein (Angelina Jolie has been linked to the film,) The Invisible Man (starring Johnny Depp) and Frankstein (starring Javier Bardem). But the Dark Universe is off to a rocky start and the critics have been ruthless.

Wonder Woman’ Is Most Tweeted Movie of 2017

After breaking a historic box office record, Wonder Woman has broken another record, becoming the most tweeted-about movie of 2017 in the United States.

“Wonder Woman” has garnered more than 2.19 million tweets so far this year, according to exclusive information obtained by Variety from Twitter.

Those 2.19 million tweets make “Wonder Woman” the most popular movie on Twitter of 2017, surpassing “La La Land” and “Beauty and the Beast,” which topped the box office this year with over $1.2 billion internationally, but came in third place on Twitter.

Aside from the film as a whole, Wonder Woman, also known as Diana Prince, also ranks the most tweeted-about film character of the year. Gal Gadot plays the title heroine in the flick. Her co-star Chris Pine’s character, Steve Trevor, currently ranks as the third most tweeted-about film character of 2017. Batman came in second place.

Despacito" (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) leads the Streaming Songs chart for a fourth week, with 69.6 million U.S. streams (up 6 percent) in the week ending June 1, according to Nielsen Music. Only one song has posted a greater weekly total on Streaming Songs (which began on March 2, 2013): Baauer's "Harlem Shake," which peaked with 103 million, powered heavily by user-generated clips featuring the song's audio, the week that the survey debuted. "Despacito" passes prior runner-up "Humble.," by Kendrick Lamar, which logged 67.4 million (May 6). The only other song to top 60 million: Adele's "Hello" (61.6 million, in its first week, Nov. 14, 2015). "Despacito" also dominates the On-Demand Streaming Songs chart for a third week, up 5 percent to 29.4 million on-demand domestic clicks.

"Despacito" rules the Digital Song Sales chart for a fifth week, with 148,000 downloads sold (up 8 percent) in the week ending June 1; the remix with Bieber accounts for 80 percent of the song's sales (up from 77 percent a week ago and 73 percent each of the two previous weeks).
